For the wealthy, the ultimate trophy home has become… one owned by someone else. In recent months, and particularly since the new stamp-duty regime came into effect in December, the super-solvent have stopped buying properties and are choosing to rent, riding out the uncertainty until after the election, when fears of a mansion tax will either be confirmed or allayed.
